Isle of Palms Holiday Activities
on November 30th, 2011 at 8:55 pmIn the midst of this chilly weather and with November coming to a close, we couldn’t resist outlining some Isle of Palms area December and holiday events.
The first one is a pretty neat for families with children. Apparently, Santa Claus is quite fond of the beautiful Isle of Palms (the ocean must be a nice break from the North Pole!), and he has made special arrangements with the IOP Recreation Department to pick up his mail there. A large, red North Pole Express mailbox has been installed at the Rec Center just for letters to Santa. Children can visit to drop off their letters in person at 24 Twenty-eighth Avenue, Isle of Palms, South Carolina.
Letters can also be mailed to:
Isle of Palms Recreation Center
Attn: Santa Clause
P.O. Box 508
Isle of Palms, SC 29451
Letters to Santa will be answered by the Big Guy himself, and children will receive a mailed response. The deadline to submit letters is December 15, 2011, and all letters must include your child’s first and last name as well as a return address.
In addition to the Letters to Santa program, there will be a Santa’s Cookie Workshop for children aged 12 and under. This is a free event in which children are invited to come and decorate cookies for Santa Claus. All supplies — including the cookies — are provided by the IOP Recreation Department, and kids will be able to get creative at this event! The workshop will be held at the Rec Center on Wednesday, December 14, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Elementary-age children must be accompanied by an adult, and — most importantly– preregistration is required by December 9, 2011, to attend.
On Friday, December 16, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., the IOP Rec Center will be hosting Kids Night Out. Parents can drop off their children at the Recreation Department for a night of movies, pizza, games and crafts. Supervision is provided by department staff. The registration deadline is Monday, December 12, 2011, and the cost is $10 for residents and $15 for nonresidents. Parents can use this time to get some last minute holiday shopping out of the way — not bad!
