Dewees Island off of the coast of South Carolina in the Intracoastal Waterway is a residential island that is only accessible by boat. This two and half mile island is set apart from all the rest in South Carolina in that its human residents have made it their goal to live in harmony with those who are a part of the island’s natural habitat. With a very pristine maritime forest right on the island, its a nature lover’s paradise.

There is a ferry that leaves from Isle of Palms and takes residents to and from the island.  The only other form of transportation allowed on the island are golf carts. There is a community center on the island for residents and visitors to enjoy.

It boasts tennis courts, a pool, a nature center and guest suites. There are no businesses on the island and it is truly a residents only island. So if you are interested in living in harmony with nature with a very unique sense of privacy then you’ve found it at Dewees.
